ALIQUIPPA, Pa. - Donald L. Phelps of Aliquippa, Pa. passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Hospice Respiratory Care Center in Beaver, Pa. He was 80. He was the son of the late Elon and Velma Phelps.
Mr. Phelps served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force for over 27 years. He served as an air craft mechanic and took part in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. After his military service, Mr. Phelps worked as a construction manager for Roberts Construction.
Mr. Phelps was an avid wood worker who enjoyed making all kinds of furniture. He was a loving and devoted husband of 59 years. They were more than husband and wife, they were best friends and partners, you never saw one without the other. He loved his children and grandchildren immensely and enjoyed spending time with them. He always kept them entertained and laughing. He was well known for being extremely generous, caring, funny, and very loyal. He always showed unconditional love and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Valena J. Phelps of Aliquippa, Pa.; sons, Steven Phelps of Georgia, David Phelps of Felton, Terry Phelps of Camden; daughters, Angela Phelps of Harrington, Patsy Scheufele of Harrington, Linda Solomon of Pa., Tracy Hartley of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, 2014 at Southside Baptist Church, 4904 South DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
