Donald “Pop” O’Beirne, Sr., Felton, peacefully passed on January 5, 2024 at home with his daughter by his side, at the age of 90. He is the son of the late Edward O’Beirne and Mary Helen Kennedy. Pop proudly served in the U.S. Army; he retained his patriotism through his life. While living in Philadelphia, Pop walked the 5 miles to work everyday at the Sears Roebuck Catalog often stopping to speak to neighbors along the way. He was very involved in Boy Scouts for many years, and helped with the Harrington troop during the 90s. Pop was active with the Lawncrest 4th of July fireworks committee and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He attended the Crescentville United Methodist Church where he was also a custodian.
Once Pop retired in Delaware, he enjoyed sitting outside on the porch, smoking his pipe, and watching the world go by. He loved his tootsie rolls, watching the Phillies games, fishing, and doing yard work. Pop loved his animals, always had a dog. He was stern, would speak his mind, but would do anything to help others. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Pop is preceded in death by his wife, Janice O’Beirne; daughter in law, Evelyn O’Beirne; son in law, Edward Haines; brother, Edward O’Beirne; brother-in-law, Arthur Russell; and granddaughter, Jennifer O’Beirne.
Pop is survived by his children, Donald O’Beirne, Jr (Patti), David O’Beirne (Angel), Richard O’Beirne (Eva), Stephen O’Beirne (Rita), Pam Haines, and Janice Freebairn (John, Sr.); 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
