FREDERICA — Donald Evans passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born to the late Emma and Herman Downs.
Mr. Evans retired from Civil Service from the Dover Air Base in 1972. After his retirement, he enjoyed racing stock cars for about 16 years. Anything to do with cars, Mr. Evans was a part of it. He enjoyed racing them and working on them. When he was not tinkering on them, he enjoyed watching NASCAR. His favorite driver was anyone driving a Ford.
To pass time, he enjoyed riding around town and staying up to date with current events. He will be remembered as straight forward and blunt, but always with an ornery side. He was very funny, and loved a good laugh. He was easy going and fun to be around, and had many friends. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Evans was a life time member of the Frederica Fire Co. with over 71 years of service.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Anna Evans; and half sister Nancy Belote.
He is survived by his son Kevin L. Evans of Frederica and his fiancé – Juanita Yager, who has been his caregiver for the past two years; a daughter Dawn A. Lyon and her husband Glenn of Frederica and special friend Robin Rentz.
A service for Donald will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, Del. Everyone is encouraged to dress in casual attire for the service.
