Dolores H. Swain

Dolores H. Swain, 93 of Harrington, DE passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Bayhealth Medical Center-Sussex Campus. She was the daughter of the late, Henry M. and Helene Ungar.

Dolores loved helping kids and spent 38 years as a teacher of first and second grade at Frederica, Felton, and Lake Forest South Elementary schools. She enjoyed listening to and playing music, especially show tunes. She was the only teacher with a piano in her classroom that was used to sing with her students.

Mrs. Swain was fond of going on drives and taking trips to NYC to visit and attend Broadway shows. She was also an avid reader; and liked karaoke, game shows, and crossword puzzles.  Dolores was loving and kind, though she could also be opinionated, sassy, and feisty. She never sensed an urgency with time and was usually a good five minutes late to everything. She was a member of the USO, Red Hat Society, Harrington Moose, and the Milford Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, Dolores is preceded in death by her brothers, Alan Ungar and Leonard Ungar.

She is survived by her children Victoria M. Booth (John), Deborah M. Coates, John M. Swain (Pamela H.); grandchildren Derek Coates, Ashley Pavic, Blair Coates, Taylor Swain, Matthew Swain; great-grandchildren Kassidy Coates, Ayden Coates, Dagen Coates, Sabina Pavic, Maxwell Pavic; and sister Jewel N. Lieberman.

Funeral Services for Dolores will be held at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy, Harrington, DE on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 3 PM, a viewing will be held one-hour prior beginning at 2 PM. Interment will take place at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Glendale, NY on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 1 PM.
