David C Jopp

d. January 23, 2024

David C Jopp, 66 passed away at home on January 23, 2024.

Dave was born to James Jopp Sr. and Betty Jopp. He was a unique individual and did things his way.  He was a happy person.  Dave took wonderful care of his mom, Miss Betty, until the very end, although he probably caused all her gray hair.

He was a 1976 graduate of Lake Forest High School.  Getting his diploma made him extremely proud because he had quit and chose to go back on his own to finish.  Dave was very popular in high school and for years later.  He maintained many friendships over the years and those friends stood by him and helped him along the way.  He was always willing to help anyone.

David loved animals, and always had pets.  Cats were his favorite, and he adopted the neighborhood strays. He also followed NASCAR with Joey Logano as his favorite driver, and he cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers. His favorite music was old Rock and Southern Rock.

In his early years, he laid flooring for Callaway Flooring. But Dave was a mechanic by trade and he could fix just about anything. Through the years, he worked for Bill Lyons, Terry Stewart and Guy Schweitzer.  In his later years, David mostly gave up working on cars to focus on bicycles.  He was introduced to big tire bicycles by a young boy named Shawn and Dave was hooked!   He became obsessed with bikes and creating his own versions of unusual bikes.  He loved giving away bikes to small children just to see them smile and hear them laugh. He was known as “THE BIKE MAN” in Harrington who had bicycles hanging in his trees on the highway.  He could be seen riding a different bike several times a day and at night, and many enjoyed seeing the lights on them as he rode by!

David was preceded in death by his Parents, and Grandfather, Carlton D. Goslin.  He is survived by his brother James “Jimmy” Jopp, Jr.  of Woodside, and sister Patricia Bailey, of Milford as well as several nieces and nephews. And many, many friends.
