HARRINGTON — Darrell R. Murray, of Harrington, passed away on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at Lewes Harbor Health Care. He was 86.

Mr. Murray served his country proudly in the US Army during World War II. He served for seven years, and was in the Battle of the Bulge, and served in Germany, Belgium and France.  Mr. Murray was a farmer for many years. He also drove a truck for Walter Schiff and operated the mill. While living in New Jersey, he was a manager for Two Guys Department Store, and also worked at Ball Anchor and Chain store. At one point, he also worked on the railroad in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Murray was known as a hard worker all his life, and went by the nicknames Doc and Chief.

Doc was bestowed on him for being the healer in the family. He stitched up many cuts, and soothed many bruises and scratches. His family always came first, and he was always there to take up for them or be there when needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Susie Anna Murray; son, Darrell Murray Jr.; daughter, Marsha Dill; brothers, Gerald E. Murray, Wesley R. Murray Sr., and Donald Paul Murray Sr.; and sisters, Winifrid V. Hurd, and Lanora Hurd.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Grace M. Murray of Harrington; sons, Marcus R. Murray and wife Jean of Felton, Donald W. and wife Sue Murray of Harrington, and Michael P. and wife Sandy Murray of Felton; daughters, Sharon A. and husband Dave Pearce of Harrington, Lorraine A. and husband Tom Farrall of Harrington, and Terri L. and husband Brian Gillespie of Harrington; sisters, Edith Hurd of Milford, and Marlin Elliot of Houston; 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Lighthouse Christian Center, Milford-Harrington
Hwy., Milford. A visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday evening, at Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sandtown.
