Daniel E. Williams Jr., of Greenwood, DE, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 88. He was born as the youngest child of the late Catherine and Daniel E. Williams Sr.
Mr. Williams served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp which later became the Air Force. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant and served with the 14th Air Force stationed in China and was in charge of ferrying planes from India to China, which was referred to as “The Hump”. After the war, he went to work briefly at DuPont before he became a lifelong farmer.
Mr. Williams kept busy farming, but he also had a few hobbies. He enjoyed making pottery and weaving. He also liked to fly and owned several planes throughout the years. He also enjoyed boating with his wife Betty and taking the boat down to Florida. He also enjoyed camping and taking the camper out west to see the country. Reading and music were also favorite activities, as well as playing the Ocarina. He could play the William Tell overture on the Ocarina, something he was very proud of. Another feat he was proud of was running a Marine Corp marathon in his 50’s. As a young man, he did enjoy running.
He will be remembered as an adventurous person who everyone enjoyed being around. He was very interesting to be around and everyone loved to hear his life stories. He had a good sense of humor and loved to tease family and keep them on their toes. He had a mischievous streak and loved to keep things stirred up. He will be sadly missed.
Mr. Williams was a former member of the VFW and a member of the Bethany Church of the Brethren in Greenwood. He was also involved with Meal on Wheels and helped with meal delivery.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Williams.
He is survived by his sons and their spouses, Daniel E. Williams III (Donna L.) of Greenwood, Mark A. Williams (Alexis) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter and spouse, Margaret L. Breeding (Barry) of Harrington, DE; 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 2 PM, at the Bethany Church of the Brethren, Greenwood.
