Connie Starkey of Felton, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 15, 2015. Connie was 69 years old. She was born in Dover, DE to the late Joseph Palmer and Anna Louise Moore.
Connie worked as a legal secretary for over 29 years for various legal firms in the state. She loved her job as a legal secretary, but once she clocked out of work, the rest of her time she devoted to her family. She was always readily available to do whatever was necessary to support her husband, children, and grandchildren. To say she spoiled her grandchildren was truly an understatement. She took it to the next level and was at every game and every event cheering them on. She was a cheerleader in high school, and kept cheerleading throughout her life for her children and grandchildren.
Connie's home was always open to anyone. She welcomed anyone and everyone into her home at any time. She loved to host people and made sure to hug them and feed them. She truly loved to entertain. It did not matter if you were a stranger, you got a hug. She truly loved people, and never had a bad word to say about anybody. Connie hosted family dinners every Sunday after church, something her family will miss tremendously. Baking cookies was also a specialty, and she baked countless thousands of them. Sunday School classes, church functions, her son's basketball teams, you name it, she baked cookies for it. Not only did Connie keep a tidy home, but she made sure the outside looked great as well. She loved to tend to her flowers, work in her garden, and she especially loved to mow her grass, which was mowed at least twice a week.
Calvary Wesleyan Church was a big part of Connie's life. Next to her own family, her church family was an important part of her life. She was a member of Calvary Wesleyan for over 49 years. She taught Sunday School to the 4th and 5th graders for 33 of those years. Connie's spiritual influences, warm hugs, and smiling personality kept many people coming back to church Sunday after Sunday. Her strong faith and belief in God not only shaped her life, but also the lives of her children and family.
Connie will be remembered as being very positive, funny, encouraging, and strong witted. Her encouragement extended not only to her family but everyone she met. She was always saying, "we will make it, everything will be all right." Even through her illness, she echoed that sentiment many times. Her earthly pain and suffering has now ended and she is now tending to her heavenly garden and awaiting her family and friends arrival with a warm hug.
Connie is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erin Murphy; and a sister, Mary Anna Johnson.
Connie leaves behind her loving family, husband of 48 years, Louis B. Starkey of Felton; son and daughter in law, Michael B. and Sarah Starkey, and their children Jackson, Raegan, Carson, Brayden Starkey, all of Felton; daughter and son in law, Teresa and Greg Murphy, and their children, Caitlin, Kylie, Luke Murphy all of Felton; sisters, Debbie (Rusty) Jack of Frederica, Josie Strong of Dover; brother, Kenneth (Josie) Moore Sr. of Dover.
