FELTON — Constance (Connie) R. Kemp passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Country Rest Home, Greenwood.  She was born on July 11, 1933, the oldest of four children to Harry and Gladys (Carter) Reed.

Mrs. Kemp attended the Greensboro Elementary School until the family moved to Felton, DE.  She graduated from Felton High School in 1951, and in 1952, married her sweetheart, Harry Kemp.

She worked briefly at Playtex in Dover before being a full time mother. After her second child was born, she went to work as a substitute teacher, in the Lake Forest School District, then as a classroom paraprofessional, retiring after 22 years. She loved helping children learn to read.

Mrs. Kemp loved the Lord and her church, Manship Chapel. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years. While she was able, she helped with their various programs including VBS, Junior Church, and the Christmas programs to name a few. In her earlier years, she was the chairperson for their annual Thanksgiving Celebration.

Mrs. Kemp was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, was always smiling, and had a kind and gentle nature. She loved gardening and taking care of her flowers. In the summer, she would can and freeze her bounty from the garden. She loved all types of family gatherings, birthdays, holidays, and the Delaware State Fair. She was an assistant in the Flower Department for many years. She enjoyed that role so much, she took her family vacation for it every year. She will be sadly missed.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Edwin Reed and sister, Ethel Tyndall.

She is survived by her loving husband of almost 63 years, Harry Kemp of Felton; daughters, Marsha (Billy) Jester of Harrington, Donna Kemp and Eugene Tucker of Felton; granddaughter, Carrie (Joe) Strachar of Harrington; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Stephanie, Emily Jo Strachar of Harrington; sister, Jean (Billy) Wothers of Felton; brother in law, Donald Tyndall of Dover.

Services will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. where visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Hopkins Cemetery in Felton.

Flowers are welcomed as she loved them very much, but donations may also be made to the Manship Chapel, 4912 Burnite Mill Road, Felton, DE 19943.
