Catherine M. Smith

d. January 25, 2012

Catherine May Taylor Smith, of Houston, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.  She was 98.  She was born to the late Joseph and Kate Taylor.

Mrs. Smith worked for a while at the Harrington Shirt Factory before becoming a full time homemaker.  She was an accomplished seamstress, and loved to sew, knit, and crochet.  She loved to garden and maintained a beautiful yard.  She even loved to mow the grass.

She will be remembered as a kind hearted person who had a great sense of humor, and would help anyone who was in need.  All you had to do was ask, and she would be right there.  She will be greatly missed by her family and church family.

Mrs. Smith belonged to the Avenue United Methodist Church of Milford and to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, 3rd CG District (SR).  She was also the last survivor of the Harrington High School Class of 1930.

A final wish of Mrs. Smith was that everyone that attends her services wear bright cheery colors and not dark.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Smith; a son, Daniel J. Smith Jr.; siblings, Emma Taylor, C. Elwood Taylor, Mildred Newnom, Ethel Plummer, George Taylor, Nellie Andrews, Joseph Taylor, Margaret Hopkins, Walter Taylor, and Mary Ann Taylor.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Dolan of Houston; granddaughter, Sara Dolan Restivo and her husband James of Maryland;  and a daughter in law, Eileen V. Smith of Houston.

Services will be Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 1 PM, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington.  A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, and interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Milford Community Food Pantry, c/o Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N Church St. Milford, DE 19963; or to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
