Caroline Barbee

d. January 17, 2015

MILTON — Caroline Barbee of Milton passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Beebe Hospital in Lewes. She was 69. Daughter of the late Magnus and Mary Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Barbee was a homemaker who lovingly provided for her family. She enjoyed being in the outdoors, whether it was hunting in her younger days, or spending time in her garden. She always had a huge garden, and spent as much time as she could in it. She enjoyed taking her bounty of vegetables and freezing and canning them. Many cherished memories were made sitting together as a family and shelling the countless bushels of beans. Being outside also allowed her to watch mother nature and she enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and butterflies. Mrs. Barbee also enjoyed camping and crabbing. She loved anything nautical and having to do with the water.

When she was not in her garden, she enjoyed sewing and scrapbooking. She enjoyed taking her own photos, and always had her camera ready to capture the perfect shot. She was quite crafty as well and could fix almost anything. Her most beloved activities revolved around spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them on many adventures together whether it was to the beach or the amusement parks. She was very dedicated to her family and loved them very much. She could be strong willed at times, but she had a caring and prayerful nature about her that will always be remembered. Her family will also cherish and remember her singing which she loved to do, especially her favorite old time country tunes. She will be sadly missed.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronnie Fitzgerald. She is survived by her loving husband,
James, “Jim” Barbee of Milton; sons, Melvyn (Donna) Miller, Sr. of Harrington, James Barbee, Jr. of Flemington, N.J.; daughters, Stephanie (Raymond) Justice of Milford, Theresa (Randy) Miller of Bridgeville, Tammy Foy of Milford, Samantha Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers, Tommie Fitzgerald of North Carolina, Jackie Fitzgerald of Milford; sisters, Virginia Fitzgerald of Greenwood, Shelby Schlabach of Greenwood; 15 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be 1 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2015 at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Rd., Georgetown, DE 19947. Visitation will be 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Dinner will follow service.
