Carlton H. Melvin, of Greenwood, DE, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2012, from Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, he was 90.  Mr. Melvin was born to the late Florence and Thomas Melvin Jr.

Mr. Melvin served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII.  He owned and operated Melvin’s Garage in Greenwood for over 30 years.  After selling the business, he became an employee for Nanticoke Homes for many years.

As a young man, Mr. Melvin loved to water ski, and he enjoyed teaching others how to ski. He later gave that up as he moved on into bigger boats and fishing.  Not only did he enjoy fishing, but he enjoyed playing golf.  He became quite good at golf, and enjoyed beating others.  In his spare time, when he was not fishing or golfing, he enjoyed gardening.  His lima beans were the best around, and he liked to share them with others.

Mr. Melvin was always willing to fix anything for anybody.  A simple phone call to him, and he would be right there lending a hand.  He was one of the original members of the old Pilgrim Holiness Church which is known today as Calvary Wesleyan Church in Harrington, where he continued to be a faithful member.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Melvin, in 2007, and 7 brothers preceded him in death as well.

He is survived by a son, Kirk M. Melvin of Philadelphia; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen M. and Carroll Young of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
