C. Wayne Coulbourn

C. Wayne Coulbourn, 73, Harrington, passed away on Sept. 24, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Calvin and Lucy Coulbourn.

Wayne was a 1970 graduate of Lake Forest High School, where he played baseball, tennis, and ran track. He proudly served 6 years in the US Army National Guard, after which he worked various jobs including Aetna Shirt Company and the City of Harrington in the Public Works Department. He spent most of his life self-employed, managing the properties he owned.

Wayne’s family was the most important part of his life. Though he tended to be a homebody, he loved spending time with his daughter, son-in law, and grandchildren.  Time spent with family and friends often included playing games such as horseshoes, cards, Yahtzee and checkers. He especially enjoyed playing basketball and other boardgames with his grandchildren Cassandra and Nicholas. Wayne enjoyed nature and would often spend time working in his yard, tending to a seasonal garden, and watching for deer and other wild animals that would often visit. His favorite foods included his daughter’s meatloaf, fried potatoes, fresh garden tomatoes, and scrapple. He was a laid-back man who rarely raised his voice and always thought of others first.  Wayne was known for his sense of humor and habit of calling everyone “Buck” or “Bucky”. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by all his siblings: Helen Seiler, Frances Wooters, Bea Lahman, James Coulbourn, Graham Coulbourn, Becky Unruh, and Norma Baer.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Cathy Schreiber (Yale); grandchildren, Cassandra and Nicholas Schreiber; and extended family.

A funeral service will be on Monday, September 30, 2024 at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE at 1 PM. A visitation will take place one hour prior starting at 12 Noon. Interment will immediately follow at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, DE.
