Bryan E. Killen, age 27, of Felton, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from Bayhealth-Kent General hospital.
Early on Saturday morning, Bryan took the hand of Jesus and walked through the valley of the shadow of death into Heaven. There he received a new body that was cancer and pain free. Walking on the streets of Gold, Bryan followed His Savior to the mansion that God has promised each of us if we only accepted His Son as our personal savior.
Bryan graduated from Milford High School in 2004. In high school, Bryan was involved in the All State Choir, Band, and represented the school as their mascot Buccaneer. He thoroughly enjoyed being incognito as the mascot and playing pranks on his classmates.
After graduation, Bryan enrolled at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts and studied youth ministry, where he completed their five year curriculum and graduated in 2009. At E.N.C., Bryan participated in the Acapella Choir and the Chamber Choir, and traveled extensively singing at different venues. Most notably was a trip to Europe and also at Carnegie Hall.
Bryan’s passion was music and drama. He loved to act and did several musicals in high school and college, as well as numerous skits through the youth Jump Ministry of E.N.C., and different plays at church. Every October at E.N.C., his family made the trek up there to see him perform in their play. A notable feat that only Bryan could accomplish was schooling the college on how to cook. Bryan loved to cook and was very good at it. He took turns cooking breakfast at E.N.C., and on the days that he cooked, they had the highest attendance ever. He showed New England what real sausage gravy was, and he created a chicken and gravy dinner (Paula Deen style) which sold out almost immediately. To all his friends at E.N.C., he was known as “Mayor Ducky Munchkin.”
Bryan was adventurous and lived life to the fullest. He was always smiling and brightening up everyone’s day. His countless road trips with his friends were always an adventure and even with GPS and detailed directions, they always managed to get lost. At home, Bryan loved to work with the children and youth at church. The kids loved him dearly. He truly lived out his calling in life by working with the youth and spreading God’s love and His Word. Even throughout his illness, Bryan stayed upbeat and positive and witnessed that love to everyone that surrounded him. Bryan would want everyone to remember his favorite quote, “Whatever happens, just keep smiling.”
Bryan is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bryan and Lyda Killen.
He is survived by his loving parents, Bobby E. and Trudy Killen of Felton; sisters, Christy L. Bakas of Greenwood, Kimberly J. Killen of Felton; maternal grandparents, Betty Reimer of Felton, Robert Quillen of Florida.
Services will be Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 1PM through the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation for family and friends will take place Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Interment will be at the Milford Community Cemetery.
