FELTON - Betty S. Blackburn of Felton passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 87. She was born to the late Joshua B. and Grace Belle Shahan.

Mrs. Blackburn was a homemaker, however, she did work outside of the home as well. She worked at Playtex making baby pants, then worked at ILC making space suits, and also at the Modern Maturity Center of Dover as head of the call center. She also volunteered extensively at the Blood Bank and at the Cancer Society. She was also a former Boy Scouts Leader as a Den Mother.

Mrs. Blackburn was very religious and enjoyed reading her Bible everyday and doing daily devotions. She always made sure her family went to church. She liked to crochet, sew, read, search a word puzzle books, and collecting bells and horse figurines. She loved her family tremendously and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Blackburn attended the Sandtown Nazarene Church. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Generation Health Care nurses and aides who came in multiple times a week to render aid and care, and also thank Bayhealth-Kent General third floor staff.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Blackburn Sr.; son, Wayne Blackburn; brothers, Vernon and George Shahan; sisters, Evelyn Cole, Margaret Gourley, Joyce Tribbitt; grandchildren, Kelly Rinaldi, Stephen Reed; great grandchildren, Jacob Rinaldi, Kaylee Crow, Jessup Crow, Kyle Crow, Michael.

She is survived by a son, William C. Blackburn Jr. (Christie); daughters, Cynthia Hammond of Felton and Patricia Blackburn of Bethany Beach; a sister, Charlotte Hurd of Milford; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
