Bethany Marie Valentine

d. September 5, 2013

HARRINGTON - Upon her last breath, with a faint smile on her face, as scripture was being read to her by her mom, Bethany was whisked away by angels to her Heavenly Father where she opened her eyes to see her Jesus, on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013. She passed away from A.I. DuPont Hospital with her loving parents, brother and other family members by her side.

Bethany, also known as "Brat Girl" by her family, was truly unique. Although the word Brat may seem derogatory, for Bethany it stood for Beautiful-Resilient-Adorable-Treasure. Bethany had her own way of letting you know whether she accepted you or not. She had a different personality for each individual she knew. At times she could be ornery, but deep down she was a diva. She loved to go shopping especially to JC Penneys. She had a subtle dry sense of humor and was very smart. She enjoyed watching the news on TV every morning. Her infectious smile, the crinkle of her nose made everyone fall instantly in love with her. She will be truly missed.

The family would like to personally thank those that helped care for Bethany all these years. Her nurses, Miss Tawana, Diane, Gina, Sheri, Terri, Tara, Ruba, Leah, Susan, and a host of other VNA nurses. Special thanks to the staff at KCCS, friends at Howard T. Ennis, the medical staff at A.I DuPont who worked tirelessly to improve Bethany's life and make her comfortable, and all her friends at Calvary Wesleyan Church. All the teachers, nurses, therapists, and doctors were like family to her.

Bethany is preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles Gordon; and great-grand parents, Irene and Bill Whatley.

Bethany is survived by her loving and devoted parents, Jeffrey L. and Terry E. Valentine, of Harrington; brother, Levi S. Valentine and his girlfriend Katelyn whom Bethany adored, of Georgetown; maternal grandparents, Theresa Pyle of Middletown, and Bruce and Blanca Pyle, of Wilmington; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Virginia Valentine, of Angola; a host of aunt, uncles, cousins; and Bethany's constant animal companions who miss her dearly, Roxy and Gizmo.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. As Jesus said come as you are, the family has requested that everyone who attend do the same, no formal attire necessary.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, 1901 Rockland Road, Wilmington, DE. 19803; or visit www.rmhde.org/donate-now or Calvary Wesleyan Church, Promise Land Fund, 240 Delaware Avenue, Harrington, DE 19952.
