Beatrice W. Goodhand passed away from this life and into the arms of Jesus on July 8, at the Delaware Hospice Center.  She was 82.

Beatrice (Bea) was born in Chester, PA, in 1928, the daughter of  James Palmer Hallman and Dorothy Milby Hallman.  Bea was formerly from Bridgetown, MD and attended Ridgely High School.  She married Carlton Goodhand of Harrington, DE, formerly of Queen Annes County, MD.  They were married for 65 years, and were the proud parents of 5 children, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Bea, as she was called by most people, was first and foremost a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and great grandmother.  Her family were her pride and joy.  Love for her family permeated her home and it showed in her family.  Although she was a stay at home mom, she did hold a few jobs after most of her family were raised.  She worked at the Ace Dress factory, Hutzlers Department Store, Legettes Department Store, and in her later years as a greeter at Melvin Funeral Home.

Bea was quite a seamstress and doll maker.  She was famous for her porcelain dolls, and her Raggedy Ann Dolls.  She could sew anything.  Above all she had a great care for her church and was very serious about her relationship with Christ.  Her hope was in the Lord.  She was a member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington, and a member of Gideons International Auxiliary.

Bea was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy, when she was 4 years old.  She was also preceded in death by her father James Hallman, her step mother Elizabeth Hallman, and her three sisters, Sandy Walker, Marion Ostroff, and Jamie Mathews.  She was also preceded in death by Eliza Cole, her grandmother who raised her and was like her mother.

She is survived by the love of her life, J. Carlton Goodhand of Harrington; 5 children and their spouses: Sharon and Jim Clendaniel, Rebecca and John Haynes, James C. and Xiomara Goodhand Jr., Diana and Kim Friedman, Roberta and Tom Moore, Aunt, who was like a sister,  Mary Cole Ivens of Denton, MD; 8 grandchildren, Shelby McKenzie, Dana Isom, Jennifer Collins, Shelly Osborne, Gregory Haynes, Chad Haynes, Sean Moore, Jason Moore; 8 great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life Service, will be Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 1:00 PM, with a visitation Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 PM, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington.
Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
