Shirley Rothermel

Shirley Rothermel, of Milford, passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 at Bayhealth – Kent General, at the age of 81.  She was the daughter of David and Annie Messick.

Shirley worked for 10 years at JC Penney’s in Milford prior to retiring from the microfilm dept. at the State of Delaware after 25 years.  

Shirley deeply loved her family and friends and spending time with them. She enjoyed shopping with her best friend Naomi Hogan, eating out with her husband, Harold, and taking family vacations to the beach.  Shirley was a great cook, often hosting family dinners, and was well known for her macaroni & cheese and fruit cups.  She took special pleasure in spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Shirley will be dearly missed by all.

Shirley is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lindsey Rothermel; brothers: James, Russell, Donald, and Marvin Messick; sisters, Mildred Cain and Esther Howard.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Harold Rothermel; son, Robert Rothermel; daughter, Sandra Rothermel; granddaughter, Tara Turcotte-Leyanna; great grandchildren, Briannah Rothermel, Katelynn and Connor Brown.

A Funeral Service will take place at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 1 PM, with a visitation for family and friends, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
