Mildred "Millie" Warrington Obituary

Mildred "Millie" M. Warrington passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 18, 2018.  She was 84.  Millie was born on June 21, 1934 to the late Herman J. and Mildred Minner of Harrington. She graduated from Harrington High School in 1952, followed by the University of Delaware in 1956. She married in 1956 and worked as a home economist for Delaware Power and Light. In 1958 she left the company to be a full time wife and mother.

In 1963, Mrs. Warrington opened a private kindergarten which she called Little Folks Kindergarten and operated for four years. It was very successful and is still remembered by many of her students. In 1967 she began a public school teaching career which continued until her retirement in 1991. Most of those years were spent in kindergarten at Allen Frear School in the Ceasar Rodney School District.

Millie was always very active and supportive of local activities, especially those related to her children such a Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Band Boosters and church activities. She also belonged to many community organizations over the years such as Felton Fire Company Auxiliary, Avon Club, Merrymakers Club and Red Hatters, holding various offices in each. She also found time to volunteer at Kent General and Milford Hospitals, Meals on Wheels and Delaware Hospice. Millie also worked many years as a para-mutual clerk at local race tracks in Harrington, Dover, and Ocean Downs. In the summer, she also worked at a gift shop (The Whales Tail) in Fenwick Island. Among Millie's many interests were reading, arts & crafts and auction sales where she was known to find just the doll, glass paperweight or tea pot that she needed for her collections.

In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Odes Lee Tatman.

Millie is survived by her three children, Pam Tatman, Doug (Tammy) Warrington, and Craig Warrington; four grandchildren, Bryant (Ellen) Tatman, Dean (Stephenie) Tatman, Elizabeth (Joseph) Freeman, and Stanley Warrington; three great grandchildren, Matt, Dylan and Joelle; brother, Jack (Gwen) Minner; and two nephews, Jeff and Tim. Millie's family members were her most beloved treasures. Although she worked most of her life and was very active, her family was always most important.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to long time family friend and Millie's caregiver, Joy Bishop, for the exceptional love and care given to her over the last few years. Also, a special thank you to Julie and the Delaware Hospice staff for their support and kindness.

Funeral services will take place at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE 19952,  on  Friday, November 23, 2018 at 2 PM with a visitation for family and friends two hours prior. Interment will follow at Hopkins Cemetery in Felton.
