Kathryn L. Childress

Kathryn L. Childress, age 83 of Harrington, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at her home in Magnolia.  Mrs. Childress was born in Greensboro, MD to the late Omer and Edith Thompson Sr.

Mrs. Childress worked at Playtex and also for the Delaware Home for the Chronically Ill for many years before she started working with her husband in the harness horse business for over 40 years.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, crocheting, and shopping.  She loved to read and can her own vegetables and make her own jams.  She enjoyed being a grandmother more then anything and her grandchildren loved her dearly for always being there for them.  She will be remembered as the caretaker of her family, who always needed her help, her sassiness, and her love to dance in her younger years.  Everyone truly loved to be around her.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Childress; sister, Ruth Anna Bilbrough; and a brother, Omer Thompson Jr.

She is survived by her children, Nancy (Tony) Noble of Magnolia, Betty (Wayne) Truitt of Harrington, Linda (Pete) Boelens of Harrington, John (Annette) Childress Jr. of Solomans Island, MD; brother, Ralph (Joyce) Thompson; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 12.30 PM.  A visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service.  Interment will take place at Sharon Hills Memorial Park in Dover.
