HARRINGTON - Culinary Specialist First Class (SuW) Michael W. Benton, Sr., “Kattounge” passed away on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones, he was 33. Mr. Benton was born in Dover to William (Mary Landry) Newman, Jr. and Michelle (Chuck) Vinson.
Before a career in the Navy he was a graduate of Lake Forest class of 2003 where he met and fell in love with his wife Christine Benton.
Michael actively served his country proudly in the United States Navy for the past 13 years. Michael’s last ship assignment was on the USS Wasp (LHD-1) where he served as a Culinary Specialist.
Michael not only had a deep love for the Navy but above all he was devoted to his family. He will always be remembered for his storytelling to everyone he knew and he had a laugh that was known for miles. Michael enjoyed skateboarding, playing catch with his kids and working with his hands. There are people who spend decades on this Earth without making a dent.
Michael was an honorable man, brave sailor, a creative soul, loving father, friend and family member. He has performed above and beyond. May the rest of us strive to attain even a fraction of what he has accomplished and may the angels above care and love such a special person.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Benton; sons, Michael and Nikolis Benton; daughter, Izabella Benton; sisters, Tiffany Benton, Mariah Landry, Rusti Sue Dean, Shannon Heffelmire and Amber Griewahn; brothers, Will, Andy, and Buck Benton, Jon and Greg Landry, Chip Vinson, Mark Scribner, Jr. and Adam Irish; father and mother-in-law, Mark and Carol Scribner; as well as many Navy brothers and sisters.
