William “Bill” Thomas, of Canterbury, passed away at home, on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at the age of 90. He was the son of the late James E. and Mary Thomas.
A proud 30 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he led a life of service to others as a preacher, teacher, social worker and a counselor at Elizabeth Murphy School. Bill loved teaching the kids, his favorite subject was science. He was a faithful member of the Milford Church of the Nazarene for 45 years.
Along with his love for God and his family, Bill had a passion for music and singing. He sang with the “Watchmen Quartet” for many years. Bill enjoyed nature, whether he was horseback riding, feeding the birds and squirrels, or just being outside.
“Mr. T” was a quiet man who had way of commanding respect. He would give you the shirt off his back and the last nickel in his pocket. No one could ever say a bad thing about him or dislike him if they tried. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marion “Jean” Thomas; brother, David Thomas, and sister, Betty Lowe.
Bill is survived by his sister, Effie Medford-Hatheway; his children: William “Bill” Thomas, Jr., J. Kevin Thomas, Debbie Biggie, Cassandra Williamson, and Sheila Neath; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Lucy.
Services will take place at the Faith Baptist Church, 1575 Bryn Zion Road, Smyrna, on Tuesday, February 23rd at 3 PM. A visitation for family and friends will take place at the church one hour prior to the service.
