It is with deep sorrow that we have to give our saddest farewell to Sabrina “Penny” Callaway. Penny passed away suddenly on Monday, December 14th, 2020. She was born in New Mexico to Jeril and Evelyn (Marshall) Gray.
Penny was the eldest child of an air force family, so as a young girl, she spent her years traveling the world. These years spent among various diverse cultures developed Penny’s loving disposition. Whether it was her family or a stranger she’d met less than a minute prior while working at Callaway Furniture or elsewhere, she would treat everyone with care and love. With the warmest heart and a glowing personality, Penny’s passion for family and endless love brought a positive impact onto anyone’s path she crossed.
Penny’s greatest love was seeing the joy she brought others. Every holiday season, she would spend days decorating every room of her house to see the happiness she could bring her family. Being able to transform a space into something beautiful was something Penny always knew would bring her and everyone around her joy. Her attentiveness and care was shown in every aspect of her life. From the previously discussed careful decorating to her love for gardening, Penny always spent the extra time to take care of the people and things that were part of her life.
Penny is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Paul R. Callaway; her children; Shelly Lefort Russum and her three sons, Ryan, Andrew, and Jake Lefort; Cory Callaway; Jon Callaway, his wife Jennifer, and their children, Carrie and Evan Callaway; Jennifer Callaway; Christina Hesslink and her husband Chris; and Tony Consalo. She will be deeply missed by her siblings; Sister Gwen Dill and her husband John, sister Patricia Barber and her husband Bruce, brother Jerry Gray, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in heaven by her parents, Jeril and Evelyn Gray, and her sister, Shauna Thompson.
While the sudden passing of Penny has left us all feeling lost, the memories and imprint she put on our hearts will forever be treasured.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 3 P.M. with visitation beginning at 2 P.M. at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. Dupont Highway, Harrington, DE. We are adhering to the CDC and Delaware guidelines of occupancy limits, social distancing, and masks.
In lieu of flowers, we believe Penny would want others to help out their neighbors, family, friends, or even a stranger in any way they can. Penny was always one to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. She is remembered as a friend to all, a mother to many, and a stranger to none.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, please visit us at www.melvinfuneralhome.com to express or send condolences.
