Roger E. Mears, Felton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023, joining his beloved wife Linda in Heaven, he was 81. Roger was born in Virginia to the late, Lucille E. and Christopher C. Mears.
Roger attended Milford High School, and served his country proudly in the United States Navy in the early 60's. Roger started driving a truck at 16 years old, taught by his father. He moved to Delaware in 1968, bringing his three beautiful daughters to raise there. Roger drove for several trucking companies through the years before owning and operating his own company, Mears Trucking, which he done for over 30 years, retiring in 2018. He still enjoyed making local trips for Hobbs Trucking up until a week before his passing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Mears; and his grandchildren, Erin Trowbridge and Mark Talcott, who gets to share Pop-Pop's angel wings.
He is survived by Daddy's girls, who he still thought he was the boss of, Rogette Clark, Lisa Owens (Ronnie), Cordelia Collins; grandchildren, Ashley, Bobby, Paul, Tom, Jennifer, Stephanie, Clifton, Matt, James, Lynsy; and 14 great grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memories are his brother, Donnie Mears; aunt, Isabelle Townsend; his companion, Betty Kemp; best friends of over 30 years, Mo Oakley, Junior Cohee; and many more trucking buddies.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Thursday, March 16, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE, at 2 PM. A public visitation will start at 1 PM. Interment will be private and at a later date.
