N. Edgar “Ed” Welch, 90, of Harrington, passed away at home, on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, with his family by his side. He was the son of the late W. Carroll and Mildred Welch.
Ed proudly served in the US Army for a total of six years. He was a hard-working man, who liked to stay active, and willing to do any job to help support his family as they were growing up. Ed worked many years for Kirby & Holloway prior to becoming the shop manager for the Joseph T. Richardson Co. He was very active with Asbury United Methodist Church, which he attended since he was a child, serving many different positions within the church. Ed was proud to be a 50-year director at the Delaware State Fair.
Ed was an avid Phillies fan, enjoyed playing baseball since he was a child, often pitching. He was a happy, easy-going craftsman who enjoyed tinkering, working outside, and making people happy. Ed loved life, was the best father, grandfather, and great grandfather who was always there for his family.
In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 ½ years, Esther Welch; siblings, Evelyn Goodson, Lillian Sennett, Carroll Welch Jr., William Welch, Louis Welch, Paul Welch, Pauline Gartner, David Welch Sr., and Joan Viggiani.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Diane Lander (Otho Jr.), Roxane Miller (Chris), and Joyce Welch (companion, Mike Hastings); grandchildren, Jennifer Davis (Kyle), Tabbitha Steindl (Matt), and Tanya Fried; great grandchildren, Cole Davis and Ainsley Steindl; and a large extended family.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc. at 1 PM. A visitation will take place two hours prior starting at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington DE.
