Michael E. “Eddie” Moffett Jr.

Michael “Eddie” Moffett, Jr., Frederica, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family, he was 89.  Eddie is the son of the late, Grace and Michael Moffett Sr.

Eddie retired from Lake Forest School District as a custodian.  In his younger years, Eddie had a harness racing stable of horses.  He always enjoyed watching the races throughout the years.

Eddie was extremely passionate about blue grass music. He played his fiddle or guitar each week with his buddies in the garage.  He was a dedicated father and grandfather, attending all the grand and great grandchildren's ball games and activities.  Eddie will be remembered as an outgoing generous man, always sharing and giving of himself.  He had a tender heart, had a wealth of emotions, but also was a tad ornery. He was very loyal to his friends, always visiting in sickness or in health. 

Eddie was a member of the Harrington Moose for over 50 years, and a member of the U.S.T.A.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Delaware Hospice Center for all their care.

In addition to his parents, Eddie is predeceased by his son, John Wayne Moffett; grandchildren, Jesse Moffett, Tara Moffett, and John Edward Rust; brothers, William Moffett, Walter Moffett, and Robert Moffett.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Moffett; children, Brenda Moffett-Porter, Michael E. Moffett, III, David Moffett, Pamela Smith (Phil North) and Stacey Sowers (Ron); grandchildren, Nathan D. Rust, Eric Rust, Bryan Allaband, Lacey Moffett, David Moffett Jr., Sean Moffett, Shane Moffett, and Wade Moffett; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Harold Moffett; and an especially dear friend, Rich Ashley who shared coffee every morning with Eddie for over 20 years. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 1 PM at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc, Harrington.  A visitation will take one hour prior, starting at 12 Noon.  Interment will immediately follow at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington DE.
