Madaleine Polhemus, of Harrington, Delaware, passed away at home, at the age of 79. She was the daughter of the late John and Carolyn Polhemus of Flemington.
Madaleine attended Greensboro Women’s College and earned an accounting degree from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. She worked for many years in the accounting department of Combustion Engineering (later Asea, Brown, Bavari) in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and Windsor, Connecticut, but her favorite job came after retirement when she worked as a gardener at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, Virginia.
Other than her family, Madaleine’s greatest enjoyment was golf and gardening. She was a member of the Wild Quail Golf and Country Club in Dover. Madaleine was also an active member of the Milford Garden Club, and in her later years, earned accreditation as a flower show judge through the National Garden Club organization. Friends and family will remember her as a quiet but funny lady with a generous heart, lively intelligence, and love of nature. She will be missed.
Madaleine is survived by her sons, Michael Wanger and J. Kevin Wanger; grandchildren, Joshua, Emily, Nate, and Jonathan; a sister, Helen Romm, and a brother, John Polhemus (Luba).
Services will be held privately at a later date.
