Leon Charles Donovan

Leon Charles Donovan passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the age of 84.  He was the son of the late, Leon E. and Catherine E. Donovan.  He attended Harrington High School and graduated in 1955.

Leon began his career in the hardware business by working at Taylor's Hardware.  In April of 1962, he and his wife bought Felton Hardware which they owned and operated for 50 years.  He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church for many years.  He most recently was a member of the Independent Bible Fellowship Church.  He dedicated his life to serving the Lord.  Helping others was an important part of his life too.  He was a lifetime member of the Felton Fire Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Jean Donovan; and sister, Ellen M. Shultie-Hart. 

He is survived by his son, Rod Donovan (Sharon); daughter, Lorrie McCartney (John); grandchildren, Taylor McCartney (Lauren), Alex Donovan (Kate); great grandchildren, Lucia and Isaac McCartney, Ezekiel and Tasha Donovan; step grandchildren, Courtney and Garrett Sarlouis.  He also leaves behind many loving family members and friends.

The family will receive visitors at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, from 11 AM to 1 PM, on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, with the funeral service starting at 1 PM.  Interment will follow at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.  There will be a gathering for family and friends at the Independent Bible Fellowship Hall following the interment.    

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to either the Harrington Alumni Association, PO Box 37, Harrington, DE 19952; or to the Felton Fire Company, P.O. Box 946, Felton, DE 19943.
