June 16, 2023

Obituary

James E. "Slicky" Fisher, Greenwood, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023, from the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, he was 72. Jimmy was born in Milford, DE to the late William T. Fisher and Nora B. Fisher.

Jimmy attended 222 Elementary School, William C. Jason and then graduated from Greenwood High School, Woodbridge School District. Jimmy worked as a mechanic for Goodyear.  In his younger years, Jimmy owned race horses and enjoyed the races.  As his children were growing up, he coached Little League, umpired at one point, and even played on the fire company's softball team.  Present day, he enjoyed watching the grandchildren play ball.  Jimmy's favorite activities included fishing, clamming, crabbing, cutting his grass, playing the horses or lottery, going to the casino, and spending time with the grandchildren, whom he was totally obsessed with.  He enjoyed the Delaware State Fair and directing traffic out there.  He loved watching wrestling matches and watching his favorite TV programs with his wife and children when they were young - Sanford & Son, Jeffersons, and Good Times, and continued this tradition with his wife and son, Aaron.  As a sports fan, he enjoyed watching all sports, but especially watching the Baltimore Orioles with his wife.  He also looked forward to bartending firehouse functions with Rob Kimmey.

Jimmy was a devoted Life Member and Fire Police for the Farmington Volunteer Fire Co.  He was an active member for over 41 years, and was appointed as a Fire Policeman in August 2004.  He was named Fire Fighter of the Year in 2018, Fireman of the Year award in 2004, served as Vice President, Board of Directors, and appointed for a year's term as assistant Secretary of the Delaware State Fire Police Assoc. He was also 2016 Fire Police of the year for Kent County.  His second family and love was the Farmington Fire Co., and he was loved by the community.

Jimmy was a jokester and always lots of fun to be around.  He had a gift of making predictions that always seemed to come true.  He had a heart of Gold and will be sadly missed by his family and community.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Floyd William Fisher, whom he was very close to; when you saw one, you saw the other.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Denise Fisher; daughter, Carolyn (Paul) Jensen; sons, James "Jamie" Fisher Jr. (Lori Witzke); N. Aaron Fisher; sister, Barbara Jean Haines; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; nieces,Tanya Haines Hammond, Florena Fisher Berry, and Ashley Fisher. ; 1 great great niece; 1 great great nephew; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and adopted family.
