Howard E. "Bean" Vogelien

Howard E. “Bean” Vogelien, of Harrington, went home to be with his Lord, on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the age of 75.  He was born September 20, 1946 in Cooperstown, New York.  He was the son of the late, Joseph and Mabel Vogelien.

After graduating in 1964 from Schoharie High School in Schoharie, New York, Bean proudly served his country for 4 years in the United States Air Force.  He later graduated from the Computer Education Institute of Philadelphia and then from Delaware Technical Community College.   In 2001, Bean retired from the State of Delaware as a telecommunications consultant. 

Bean was a kindhearted man whose pastimes included hunting, golfing and fishing.  He looked forward to family gatherings, never needing a special occasion to get together for good food and laughter.  Bean loved God, his family and his country.  He was generous with his time and possessions and always lent a helping hand when needed.  He was selfless, always considering his wife and family first.  He loved them dearly.  Bean made friends easily and he formed many lasting friendships throughout his lifetime.  He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Bean was a member of Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington and a member of American Legion CKRT Post 7 where in the past he enjoyed serving on the honor squad. 

In addition to his parents, Bean is preceded in death by his brother, David Vogelien.

Bean is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 51 years, Gale Vogelien; daughters, Kate Schiff (T.J.) and Erin Giandonato (Nick); was Poppy to grandchildren, Caroline, Adam, and Meredith Schiff, Jack and Grace Giandonato; sister-in-law, Fran Vogelien; and nephews, Matthew and Nathan Vogelien; brother, Robert Vogelien.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 at Calvary Wesleyan Church, 240 Delaware Ave, Harrington at 1 PM.  A visitation will take place two hours prior starting at 11 AM.  Internment will follow at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bean’s memory may be sent to Calvary Wesleyan Church, 240 Delaware Ave., Harrington, DE 19952.
