Gertrude "Betty" E Gillie

Gertrude E. "Betty" Gillie passed away at home on Friday, June 17, 2022 at the age of 80. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Lois Kampert.

Betty was a proud woman with many achievements.  She was married to the "love of her life", Bill for 63 years.  Her family included 5 children, 9 grandchildren and countless friends, She was a devoted wife, loving mother and devout Catholic.   She was loved by everyone who met her.  

Her generosity was boundless, there was always room at her table for 1 - 10 more.  She will always be remembered for her immaculate house, impeccable handwriting and world's best apple pies. 

Betty's greatest pleasure was celebrating with her family, especially Christmas.  Throughout the course of her life, she travelled extensively enjoying trips to Canada, Europe and multiple cross country trips in America. 

Betty loved to sing, and would always have an appropriate verse, mostly Pink Floyd lyrics, for almost any situation. 

The foundation of all of her strength came from her devotion to her Catholic beliefs and her dedication to the church.  She was a long-standing member of St. Bernadette's, Harrington DE., and Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion, PA .  

Betty divided her time between her home in Delaware and the cabin in Pennsylvania.  She loved to play cards and Yahtzee and had 3 billion credits in her favorite computer game account.

She will be most remembered for her kindness, compassion and forgiving nature.  Also, her warm embraces and all-encompassing love.

In addition to her parents. Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Kampert and sister Theresa Merllat.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, William "Bill" Gillie: children Carol Boyd-Heron (Tony), Donna Ratledge (Todd), William Gillie Jr. (Annalise), Eric Gillie (Leslie), and Greg Gillie, siblings, Barbara Weight, Robert Kampert, Thomas Kampert, Carol Kazycki, Kathleen Burkhart, Mary Merlow, Rosemarie Kampert: 9 grandchildren, a large extended family and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on, Monday, June 27, 2022 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 109 Dixon St., Harrington, DE at 12 Noon.  A viewing will take at Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc., Harrington DE from 11 AM – 11:45 AM.  Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery.
