E.A. “Gus” Pickert, of Felton, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Bayhealth Sussex Campus, at the age of 90. He was the son of the late John and Clara Pickert.
Gus proudly served 8 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict in the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) as a frogman where he was the recipient of two purple hearts. After his time in the military, he continued to serve others as an officer of the law on the Philadelphia Police Department. Gus was still a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #2. In his time off, Gus also worked part time as a roofer.
Gus enjoyed being outside, planting and working on his flower gardens. He was often described as kind and gentle by his neighbors, friends, and nurses at the hospital. Gus was a considerate man who would help anyone however he could. He was a good husband, and father, always there for his children.
In addition to his parents, Gus is preceded in death by his son, August Pickert; grandson, Little Guy Amey; brother, Jerry Pickert.
Gus is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Pickert; Children; Donna Andrews, Charlie Shearer, Frank Pickert, Judy Pickert, June Amey, and Cheryl Rowan; multiple grandchildren including, Tyler, Lauren, Connor, Bradley, Christa, Chaz, Jessica, Norman, Patrick and Heather; and great grandchildren; Amy, Joe, Kevin, Matt and Sophie.
Due to the recommendations imposed by the CDC and the State of Delaware concerning gatherings, services for Gus will be held privately at a later date. Condolences are encouraged to be sent via www.melvinfuneralhome.com.
