Douglas Lynnwood Testerman of Harrington, DE, 85, passed away in his home, on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was born on Feb. 7, 1938 in Wythe County, VA.
Douglas graduated from Rural Retreat High School in 1956 and went on to study math and science at Virginia Tech. After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1961, he taught at Fort Chiswell, Cana and Rural Retreat High School in Virginia and then moved to Delaware and continued his teaching career at the Felton High School before it was consolidated into the Lake Forest School District where he taught at W.T. Chipman Jr. High School.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorcas (Steffey) Testerman; a sister, Lena M. Testerman; brothers, John Testerman and Floyd R. Testerman; and grandson, Micah Glidewell.
He is survived by his daughter, Deanna McFarland (Rob) of West Virginia; sisters, Patsy Testerman of Roanoke, VA, Violet Testerman of Harrington, DE, and Carolyn Huddle of Roanoke, VA; brother, James B. Testerman (Barbara) of Harrington, DE; nieces and nephews, Steven Testerman, and Rebecca Wilson (Dean) of Maryland, Jimmy Bales of Roanoke VA, Patty Huffman (Doug) of Roanoke, VA, Laura Testerman Renshaw (Jerry) of Austin, TX, Sandra Ryder (Greg) of Milford, DE, April Wright (Kevin) of Felton, DE and Terri Alley (David) of Catawba, VA. Also surviving are 12 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Testerman will be on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE, at 6 PM. A public visitation will be one hour prior at 5PM. A Funeral service will also take place at the Lindsey Funeral Home, 219 N. Main Street, Rural Retreat, VA 24368, on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 2PM, with a public visitation starting at 1 PM. Interment will follow at the Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rural Retreat, VA.
