Dorothy Gavel

Dorothy Gavel, Edgemere, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, she was 80,  She was born in Reedsville, PA to the late, Blaine and Dorothy Walter.

Mrs. Gavel worked as a Histology Technician for Mercy Hospital of Baltimore for over 46 years.  She loved her job immensely, and formed lasting friendships over the years there.  Her life revolved around her job which brought her great joy and satisfaction.  Her co-workers described her as kind, friendly, giving, and all that met her, liked her.  Even after she retired, she continued to correspond with her friends there.

When she was not busy at work, Mrs. Gavel was an avid reader, always with a book in her hands.  She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters, getting together whenever they could, and especially at Christmas time. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Gavel Sr.; siblings, Blaine "Sunny" Walter Jr., Arla Patton, Marie Deimler, Joyce Balamontis, Judy Malone, Dale Walter.

She is survived by her daughter, Belinda (Pastor Fern) Brittain; son, Robert James (Darlene) Gavel Jr.; sisters, Ruth Rose, Clara Smith, Janet Ford; sister in law, Dolores Noell; 4 grandchildren, Joseph (Megan) Brittain, Leanna Brittain, Amanda (Patrick) Brocki-O'Rourke, Kyle Brocki; 1 great grandchild, Betty Jo Brittain; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family; and greatly missed by her fur grandbabies, Simba, Lady, and Cinder.

Services will be private and at the family's discretion.
