Anna Payton Obituary

Anna Mae Payton, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 8, 2023 in Houston.  She was the daughter of the late William C. and Mable Etta Watkins.

Anna worked for the Sussex Company in Milford for 30 years before retiring in 1999.  After retirement, she helped her son, William “BJ” in his flower shop.

Anna enjoyed yard sales, flea markets and camping in Chincoteague. She spent hours on the phone talking to her sisters, nieces, and family.  Anna was quick witted, generous, often looking out for others before herself, and easily forgave others. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and Ron’s “Angel”. Those who knew her loved her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Ronnie McBroom.

Anna is survived by the love of her life, Ronald Payton, Sr.; sons, Ronald Payton, Jr (Valerie Watkins), William “BJ” Payton (Don Vaughan); daughter, Ronicca Payton; grandchildren, Brooks Smith, McKenna Smarte, Christopher Phipps, Laura McBroom; great grandchildren, Levi McBroom, Clay Phipps, Maddie Phipps, Bliss Smith and Olleigh Satterfield; as well as a very large extended family.

The family requests donations be made to Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home Inc, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy, Harrington, DE to defray funeral costs, in place of flowers.

A service will be held privately at a later date.
