Lawrence E. “Larry” Messick, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Cadia Capitol Rehabilitation and Nursing facility of Dover, he was 90. Larry was born in Harrington to the late Norman L. and Margaret E. Messick.
Larry served his country proudly in the United States Army. A hard worker all his life, Larry worked in the construction field and masonry trades. Larry worked well into his 80’s, setting an example of what dedication, never quit attitude, and hard work could accomplish. He was part of the Delaware Laborers Local 199 and finished out his career working for his son’s company, MadClay Homes, where he was instrumental in helping with home constructions.
In his spare time, Larry enjoyed watching sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies. He enjoyed putting puzzles together and spending time with family. He loved his wife dearly, when you saw one, the other was not too far behind. He attended the Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington and was a member of the Harington Senior Center.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, June A. Messick.
He is survived by his sons, Michael A. Messick Sr., Richard L. (Tabitha) Messick; brother, Hewitt Edward Messick; sister, Norma L. Rowe; grandchildren, Mike Messick Jr., David Messick, Madison Kervin, Clay Messick; great grandchildren, Michael Messick III, and one on the way.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, DE at 12 Noon. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hollywood Cemetery immediately following the service.
