John A. Townsend, Jr., 65 of Harrington, DE passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Bayhealth Sussex Campus. He is the son of Naomi Carmean and the late John A. Townsend, Sr.
John was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed framing houses and building decks. He was a workaholic and believed in having good tools. In his free time John enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, and going on cruises with his beloved wife, Becky.
John is survived by his wife, Becky Sheppard; mother, Naomi Carmean; sister, Jackie (Alan) Valmassio; niece Noni; nephew Chase; daughters, Ashlee and Alissa, Jennifer (Tim) Porter; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Amanda, Toby; along with other extended family.
A Service Celebrating John’s life will take place at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE. A visitation will take place one hour prior at 12:00 PM.
