Jerry L. Yoder

Jerry L. Yoder, Greenwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, surrounded by family and his dog Peanut, he was 77. Jerry was born in Milford, DE to the late, Ivan Paul and L. Elizabeth Yoder.

Growing up on the family farm, Jerry always recalled having to get up early to milk the cows and work on the farm, something he fondly talked about. Jerry served his country proudly in the United States Army after he finished high school. Never one to keep still, Jerry worked for Nanticoke Homes for many years and did everything from driving their trucks, prepping home sites, and even building the homes. He later went to work for Paradee Gas Co. where he installed, repaired, and maintained various propane equipment all over Delmarva. After moving to Florida for a time, he was an over the road trucker as well as local driver for Prime.

To sum up Jerry’s life, you only need to know one word, and that is family. Jerry was a devoted and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Some of his fondest memories were made on the ball field with his children and grandchildren. Jerry was part of the Little League as a coach and umpire and coached his children’s slow pitch softball team. He was even part of the travel ball adventures as his grandchildren became involved with baseball. In his younger days, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing, and later traveling in his RV, and tinkering on cars with Johnny, getting them ready for the demolition derby. He even helped build classic cars with his sons, Kevin and Troy, which they proudly drove. He loved to be a part of the harness racing and working horses with his father Ivan and sister Velma. Jerry was a proud family man, always bragging about his children and grandchildren to anyone that would listen.

Jerry’s other family consisted of the members of Farmington Fire Company. Jerry was a member of over 37 years with Farmington, and a 27-year member of the Fire Police. He served just about in every capacity there and truly loved the fire company.

Jerry will be remembered as kindhearted and always willing to lend a helping hand. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He will truly be missed but his legacy will live on.

In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon Lee Yoder; and a sister, Velma Rust.

He is survived by his children, Kevin Yoder (Becky), Troy Yoder (Andrea), Crystal Collier, and dog Peanut; brother, Eddie Yoder (LuAnne); brother in law, David Rust; grandchildren, Kimberly King, Brayden Ostan, Andrew Yoder, Kassidy Ostan, Kayla Ostan, Taylor Yoder, Katie St. Clair, Oliver St. Clair, Clayton St. Clair, Tyler St. Clair, Trey Yoder, Tyler Yoder, Brooke Jerman, Corey Betts (Karyna), Caleb Jerman (Brooke); 5 great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home at 1 PM. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service, from 11 AM to 1 PM, interment with military honors will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
