Thursday, May 21, 2026, she was 90. Janet was born in Milford, DE to the late Charles Schelhouse and Virginia Otwell.
Janet was a homemaker and kept herself busy helping her husband run their farm and raise their daughter Sharon. As a small child herself, Janet was raised by her grandparents, Reverend Charles and Serrecer Schelhouse. From this humble religious upbringing by her grandfather, Janet was brought up with the love of God and devotion that she carried with her for the rest of her life. In her adult life, she attended the Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington and then the Milford Church of the Nazarene.
Janet’s greatest interest in life besides her family was music. She loved music and learned to play several instruments including the guitar, piano, organ, and accordion. She also had a love for her animals, especially her cats and dogs. She enjoyed having family dinners and entertaining family and friends. Later in life, she worked at KSI in Milford, a job she thoroughly enjoyed, as she would come home every night with stories to tell about the residents. They loved her immensely and she loved them back. She loved people in general, especially children, and enjoyed helping others. She was easy to love and everyone who met her loved her right away.
Janet will forever leave her mark on this world by her compassion, loving nature, love for God, and her love for family. She was a loving wife and mother who displayed nothing but love from the day she came into this world till the day she left. Her absence will leave a void, and she will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents and her grandparents who helped raise her, she is preceded in death by her stepparents, James Otwell and June Schelhouse; brother and sister in law, Marvin and Rita Schelhouse; and brother in law, David Wells.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Bill Wells; daughter, Sharon Evans; sisters in law, Linda (Fred) Miller and Mary Wells.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE at 1 PM with a visitation for family and friends starting at 12 Noon. Interment will immediately follow at the Milford Community Cemetery.
