It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Jimmy or Jim” Nelson Yeatman, a truly kind and gentle man, beloved husband, uncle, brother, friend, and Navy veteran.
Jim was a quiet, down-to-earth man who never needed attention or recognition for the good he did. He simply helped because that was who he was. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off of his back to a friend or family member in need, always willing to lend a hand, offer his time, or help in any way he could. His kindness was genuine, his heart was generous, and his presence brought comfort to those fortunate enough to know him.
One of the greatest loves of Jimmy’s life was his beloved Mary Ann (Annie). Together, they shared life filled with love, laughter, hard work, and many cherished memories. He also had a special place in his heart for all of their animals, who were truly part of their family.
A proud Navy veteran, Jim carried the values of service, loyalty, and dedication with his throughout his life. After his years in the Navy, he found his calling as a mechanic. He loved working on cars and could often be found doing what he enjoyed most, fixing things, getting his hands dirty, and helping others keep their vehicles running.
After retirement, Jim found another job that brought him great happiness: driving Amish crews. He loved the people that he met, the work he did, and every minute of that chapter in his life. It was a perfect reflection of who he was – someone who enjoyed being useful, helping others and simply being a part of people’s everyday lives.
Jim was also a devoted NASCAR fan. During most races, you could find him sitting in his favorite chair, watching a race -or, as the family joked, sometimes the race was watching him. It was one of the simple pleasures he truly enjoyed, and those quiet race days will be fondly remembered by everyone that knew him.
Though he lived a quiet and humble life, his impact was anything but small. He leaves behind memories of a man who was dependable, hardworking, loving, and kind – a man who never hesitated to help someone in need and who asked for very little in return.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him, and while our hearts are broken by his passing, there is comfort in knowing that Jim is now reunited with the love of his life, Annie, and that they are together again in peace in Heaven.
His kindness, his stories, his love of cars and NASCAR, his devotion to his family and animals, and his quiet way of caring for others will remain in our hearts forever. He may have left this world quietly, just as he lived, but the love and kindness Jimmy gave so freely will never be forgotten.
In addition to his wife, Mary Anne “Annie” Wilson, he is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson F. and Olive G. Yeatman; and siblings, Bernard P. Yeatman, Laura B. Yeatman-Marlin, and William Michael Yeatman.
Jimmy is survived by his nephew and niece, Larry G. Jr. and Kimberly Anne Thompson; brother, Larry L. (Nel) Yeatman; sister, Linda R. Street.
