George Engelhardt

George Engelhardt, 81 of Viola, DE passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at home. He was the son of the late, Eunice Gibbs.

George was a graduate of Bob Jones University and retired from the State of Delaware as a correctional officer. He was a man of strong faith, and was a member of the Denton Baptist Church in Denton, MD. He enjoyed history, learning new things, and would do anything for anyone in need. In his free time, he especially enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren, watching them play baseball and getting up early in the morning just to take them to the bus. He also adored the daycare kids that his granddaughter, Stephanie took care of. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his mother, George was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur Gibbs and Alton T. Gibbs.

He is survived by his children, Steve Lundberg, Susan Werner, and Mark Lundberg; granddaughters Stephanie Stock and Theresa Hahn; great grandchildren, Zachary Zinter, Mason Studzinski, Maddie Studzinski, Lillie Butler, Allison Hahn, Emma Hahn; brother, Riley Gibbs; sister, Thelma “Bunny” Hrupsa; and nephew Tom Walls.

A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE. A visitation will take place one-hour prior beginning at 12:00 PM. Interment will take place at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, DE
