Frank "Jake" E. Porter Jr.

Frank E. Porter Jr., known by many as “Jake”, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at his home, he was 92 years young. Mr. Porter was born in Harrington, DE to the late, Mildred Lord and Frank Porter Sr. 

Growing up, Frank spent most of his time with his grandparents, Thomas Porter and Annie Reese Porter. Mr. Porter worked as a farmer and enjoyed farm life, especially growing watermelons and cantaloupes. Life had other plans for him, and he eventually started his own business, Porter Sand and Gravel, and excelled in owning and operating this business. He loved what he did and had a passion for his business and thrived on creating good customer service and attention to details. He understood that the future and the secret to growing his business was making his customers happy. His dedication was obvious, as he devoted over 55 years to this industry. 

When he was not hard at work, Mr. Porter enjoyed watching tractor shows on Saturday, NASCAR on Sundays and for fun always loved watching Family Feud. Whether you were a local friend or a customer who became a friend, He always enjoyed a visit to reminisce about the good ole days. He felt community was important and would give back by sponsoring several sports and organizations with one of his favorites being able to give an annual donation to the new Harrington Public Library. He was also a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge #534 for over 45 years. Mr. Porter will be remembered as a hard worker who was strong willed, but also had a great sense of humor. He touched many lives and his legacy will live on, and he will be sorely missed.

 In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte L. Porter and a daughter, Diane M. Porter. 

He is survived by his son, Donald R. Porter Sr. (Peggy); brothers, John Porter (Jeanie) and Marvin Porter; grandchildren, Stacey Sizemore, Amy Greenlee, Donald Porter Jr., Raymond Porter; 14 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11AM, with a visitation starting at 10 AM, at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 South Dupont Hwy, Harrington, DE 19952 . Interment will follow immediately after the service at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
