Carolyn Jean Poore, age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Bayhealth-Sussex Hospital, surrounded by the people she loved.
Carolyn was a proud graduate of Smyrna High School. Her life was marked by dedication – to her family, her work, and her community. She began her professional journey with the Lake Forest School District, where she worked for 13 years. Starting as a recess aide and later becoming a Kindergarten Teacher’s Aide, Carolyn brought warmth and care to every child she encountered. After stepping away from work to care for her beloved grandchildren – a role she cherished deeply – she returned to the workforce with the State of Delaware Harness Racing Commission. There she retired as Chief Paddock Inspector after 18 years, earning respect for her diligence and commitment.
Her home was always open and welcoming – a place filled with laughter, love, and the comforting presence of her dachshunds Gunner and Cujo. Carolyn had a deep love for reading and treasured time spent with family and friends. Her top priority was always the happiness and well-being of those she loved. She gave selfishly, often putting others before herself without hesitation or complaint.
Carolyn had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. Whether it was a neighbor or a stranger passing by, no one crossed her path without being greeted by her warm smile and kind words. Her contagious laughter could light up any room, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Though she is no longer with us in person, Carolyn’s spirit lives on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire acts of compassion in all who remember her.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her devoted husband, H. Raymond Poore Sr.; father, W. Carroll Welch Jr.; mother, Irene Osborne; and a sister, Susan Clark.
Carolyn’s greatest joy in life was family. She is lovingly remembered by her children, H. Raymond Poore Jr. and Bobbie Jo Pearson (Rob); grandchildren, Lauren Pearson and Robert “Roby” Pearson III; sisters, Beckie Lofland (John), Renie Carney, Kathy Drummond (George); brother, Robert Osbourne; best friend, Trish MacDonald; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 12 Noon, with a visitation starting at 11 AM, at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy, Harrington, DE. Interment will be private and limited to family due to the snow conditions at the cemetery.
