Brenda Wix

Brenda Wix passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 74. Born in Harrington, to the late, Dorsey and Pauline Hicks, Brenda was a lifelong Harringtonian who dedicated much of her life to service to others.

Brenda worked as a paraprofessional in the Lake Forest School District where she touched the lives of both students and colleagues for many years before beginning a well-deserved retirement in 2013. Throughout the years, she also worked as a Teller for the Delaware Casinos at Delaware Park, Dover Downs, and the Harrington Raceway. She looked forward to the Delaware State Fair every year, as she served as a grandstand usherette for the various programs and concerts for over 50 years. One of Brenda’s greatest joys was ensuring everyone had the Fair experience they deserved; be that by helping lost guests find their seats or by setting rowdy guests straight on proper grandstand etiquette.

In her free time, Brenda enjoyed crafting - especially making and collecting baskets - and she loved to bake. Her applesauce cakes were the BEST! She also took great pride in keeping an immaculate and welcoming home.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Danny Hicks, Gene Hicks, Roger Hicks, and Robin Hicks, as well as her in-laws, Kit and Jr. Wix.

She is survived by her husband, Brett O. Wix; son, Shawn (Sharon) Wix; daughter, Tammy Wix Donovan; siblings, Carol (Guy) Robinson, Helena Ellingsworth, Lola (JR) Wooleyhand, and John Hicks. She will be deeply missed by family, friends, coworkers, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
