Rae Short Obituary

Rae Ann Short, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, from complications resulting from a stroke, while crossing a street in Dover, she was 63.

Rae worked as the community liaison for Home Instead Senior Care of Dover.  She was a strong advocate for seniors in Kent County.  Rae gave of her time freely for various civic and non profit organizations to include, American Heart Assoc., Meals on Wheels, Alzheimer's Assoc., Be a Santa to a Senior, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce, State Chamber of Commerce, Middletown Chamber of Commerce, and Capital City Rotary.  At whatever gala or charity event planned, she was the first one there to help set up, and the last one to leave after clean up.  There is not enough space possible to write all the sentiments of the people that she has touched or mentored through these organizations.  To say she was a big part of the Dover/Kent County community is an understatement.

Rae loved helping people, and devoted most of her time to such.  She made time to write notes to those that were sick.  Even as involved with the community as she was, she always made time for her family.  Just a couple short months ago, she went on a trip of a lifetime with her family to Ireland.  They even made it over to Paris to experience the World Cup.  So many good memories were made on that trip.  Rae loved the beach and her son, Steven remembers weekly visits to the beach as a child.  They enjoyed walking the beach, hanging out by the ocean and talking.  Rae and her husband, Norm, enjoyed visiting Steven in Florida whenever they could.  Rae was indeed a loving wife and mother.  Her caring, loving, and compassionate legacy will never be forgotten as we mourn her passing.

Rae is preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Ellingsworth.

She is survived by her loving husband of almost 42 years, Norman "Norm" Short, and their son and daughter in law, Steven Short and Holly Messick.

A celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 6 to 9PM, at the residence of Tonda Parks (known as Shortwood Gardens) at 740 Bicentennial blvd, Dover DE.  This will be a casual celebration of Rae's life and an opportunity to share fond memories of her.
