Lewis Welch of Harrington passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, he was 87. He was born to the late Milton and Irene Welch.

Lewis graduated from Harrington High school in 1948. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Peninsula Acoustical in Dover for over 30 years.

Lewis true passion was harness racing whether it was training or driving horses he loved it all, and traveled across the country. In the 1960’s he worked for Henry Clukey Stables, even though he owned many horses his favorite was “Ni And Fancy”. He enjoyed attending racing events at Harrington Raceway and the Delaware State Fair as well as morning coffee at Arby’s with his friends.

Lewis was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington, the American Legion of Harrington, the Delaware Standard Bred Owners Association, and the US Trotting Association.   He was a very independent person who was extremely determined, strong willed, and tried to make light of any situation. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.        

In addition to his parents, Lewis is preceded in death by his sister, Emma Lee Horne.

Lewis is survived by his daughters: Lori (Fred) Bailey, Lisa (Steve) Morgan, LuAnn Jester ; grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Jester, Kate (EJ) Holz, Nickolas (Linda) Bailey, Derek Bailey, Erin (Michael) Brittingham, Kristin Bailey; great grandchildren, Conner, Adalyn, Rosalyn, and Shannon; sister, Imogene Kramedas.

Funeral services will take place at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Saturday, January 6th at 1PM, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
