Harvey Franklin Cashwell, 76

GREENWOOD — Harvey Cashwell met an untimely death on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at his home near G r e e n w o o d .  Harvey was born in Laurel, Del. to the late Roland and Myrtle Cashwell.

Harvey served his country proudly in the United States Army. Prior to his enlistment, he graduated from Bridgeville High School, where he enjoyed playing football. He also had an interest in amateur
boxing and baseball. He played in the minors for the Eastern Shore League back in the late 50’s and early 60’s, and continued to have a love for all sports throughout his life.

On April 2, 1966, Harvey married the love of his life, Carolyn. He and Carolyn lived on the family farm in the Hickman area throughout their married life. He also worked as a meat manager for Safeway, retiring after 45 years. Years ago, they also owned and operated the Corner Country Store in Bridgeville prior to moving out on the farm.

Since their retirement, they worked together growing their famous Doctor Martin lima beans, where they sold both the plants and beans, and grew upwards of 3,500 plants. During the winter months, they processed deer for the local hunters, only after the beans were done. Both he and his wife were homebodies who enjoyed family gatherings.

He is survived by his son, Gregory C. Cashwell; sisters, Marie (Stanley) Bozman of South Pines, N.C. and Mary (John) Hollendeck of Salix, Iowa; brother, Roland Lee (Peggy) Cashwell of Harrington; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Services will be held Monday, May 7, 2012, at 12:00 noon, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
