Welcome to the memorial page for

William F. Metzler

March 18, 2016

William F. "Bill" Metzler, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016, from his home, with his loving family by his side.  He was 80 years old.  Mr. Metzler was born in Chester, PA to the late John Blackburn Metzler and Hannah Metzler.

When his illness would allow, Mr. Metzler worked as a tree surgeon and landscaper.  To see how good he was, all you had to do was look at his own yard.  He took great pride in his lawn and landscaping.  He was a self proclaimed Mr. Fix It, and a real handyman around the house.  He could fix most anything.

One of the biggest joys he had was deer hunting.  He had many trophy bucks to show off and looked forward to deer season.  When his illness prevented him from hunting, he enjoyed riding his 4 wheeler to the woods to watch does and their young.  He would even carry corn to the woods to make sure they had enough to eat for the winter.  Another great joy in his younger years was antique cars.  He loved to buy and fix up older cars and go to car shows.  He fixed them up right, and even won an AACA First National Trophy in Hershey, PA for his 1931 Chevrolet Series AE Independence Coupe.  He had many cars over the years including a '29 Model A, '58 Chevy, and 5 different mustang convertibles, etc.

Mr. Metzler enjoyed watching Nascar and loved old western movies.  He could name off all the old movie stars and tell you what movies they were in.  He enjoyed boating, camping, and spending time with his family.  He loved his dogs and was a true dog lover to the end.  He will be remembered as a great husband, father, and friend who would do anything for you if asked.  He was very laid back and easy going, and his caring nature will be greatly missed.

Mr. Metzler is preceded in death by a son, Michael Baynum; brothers, John Metzler and Jack Leonard; and a sister, Hannah McNeal.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia "Ginny" Metzler of Bridgeville; son, William S. Metzler of Millville; grandchildren, Shaun Baynum and Amy Conroy; great grandchildren, Zoe and Daniel Baynum.
