Thelma M. Kemp

FELTON — Thelma Marie Kemp passed away on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at the Bayhhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 88.  Mrs. Kemp was born in Felton to the late, James A. and Mary E. Carlisle.

Mrs. Kemp was a group leader at the ILC of Frederica, where she worked on chemical suits.  In her spare time, she enjoyed listening to her country music, going to auctions and yard sales, and bowling. In years past, she enjoyed camping, and she also enjoyed going to the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. 

She will be remembered for her friendly outgoing personality and smile that lit up a room. She enjoyed being around people and enjoyed being with family. She was a devoted wife whose heart was broken when her husband passed away. She was a great mother and grandmother and will be missed dearly. 

Mrs. Kemp was a member of the United Methodist Women, Asbury United Methodist Church, “Merry Makers” Homemakers Club, and Harrington New Century Club.  She was a former member of the Felton Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, where she enjoyed marching in parades.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron “Buddy” Kemp; brothers, Clarence, Harry, Roland, and Lester Carlisle; and a sister, Lillian Stayton. She is survived by her daughters, Denise Abbott of Felton, Cora Bonniwell of Harrington, Joyce Lynch of Arizona; brothers, Leon, Ernest, and Harold Carlisle; three grandchildren, Aaron Bonniwell (Christie), Michael Greenwood, Tracey Greenwood and five great-grandchildren; and her grand dogs, Toby and Bruno.

Services will take place at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at 1 p.m., with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
