Richard L. Woodward

Richard L. Woodward, of Felton, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, he was 84.  Mr. Woodward was born in Elkland Borough, Tioga County, PA to the late Sumner Eugene and Mabel Woodward.

Mr. Woodward was a teacher for over 42 years.  He taught mostly high school and adult education in various school districts to include Milford, Smyrna, Lake Forest, and Polytech schools.  He was a great teacher, and well loved by his many students.

In his spare time, Mr. Woodward enjoyed camping.  Once he retired, together with his wife, they enjoyed travelling throughout the World and the United States.  Some of their favorite destinations included California, Arizona, England, and Hawaii.  Mr. Woodward also enjoyed working with leather and making items from leather.  He loved watching television and computers.  He was a "Master Tinkerer" and could fix anything.  He also enjoyed collecting miniature lighthouses and Hess toy trucks.  He will be fondly remembered by his many students and close family who remember him as a great husband, father, and grandfather. 

Mr. Woodward was an active part of the Felton United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the Mended Hearts Club by way of his heart bypass surgery.

He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Lois J. Woodward of Felton; sons, Terry (Diana) Woodward of Harrington, Rick (Kathy) Woodward of Harleysville, PA, Kelly (June) Woodward of Seaford, Scott (Maria) Woodward of Viola, granddaughter who was raised as a daughter, Patricia Lopez of Vacaville, CA; 13 additional grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. 

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE, at 1pm, with a visitation one hour prior.  Interment will be private.
